Christopher Reynolds

1921 Apr 1. Christopher Reynolds Section Leader, E Company, 4th Battalion, 1st Dublin Brigade. I.R.A. was shot dead in the street by British Soldiers who had arrested him earlier at his home

• The military were transporting him in a tender
• The tender broke down near Portobello Bridge
• While it was being fixed, the soldiers dismounted from the tender and stood guard
• when the tender was fixed and restarted, the soldiers got back into the tender
• At this point Reynolds and another prisoner Bernard Nolan jumped out of the tender and ran away down the street according to the British . Nolan's account is different
• Reynolds was shot and taken to King George V Hospital, where he died
• Nolan gives a graphic account of the events in the hospital
• Nolan was wounded in the right arm and leg. Nolan confessed that he and Reynolds were in an I.R.A. Active Service Unit which had been at the Lucan Ambush in which 2 RIC men died

Nolan's Witness Statement We got a second order to stand up. I stood up, changing my position as much as possible, ,and in turning round to get a rifle that had been left in the tender against the seat behind me, I heard a volley. The two of us.collapsed in.the tender,and when Ibecame.conscious I found we were lying on our backs on the foot path. I heard a voice saying." That so-and-so is not dead yet".They fired again I again became unconscious.

A lengthy report in Dublin Evening Telegraph 07 April 1921, however after the econd adjournment I can find no further press reports on the case being reopened
