The IRA Witness statement names him incorrectly as Frank O'Donoghue. His name was Frank Sullivan, and the inquest gives Frank Sullivan. The IRA man who did the job was a hit man, and just got the name wrong (Frank Sullivans mother who had remarried was nee Donoghue, so that might have confused the issue). The references to Miss Whitley confirm his name
He had worked for many years for Emily and Beatrice Whitley, daughters of a former Church of Ireland rector of Rosscarbery. Their house (Merton House), was immediately beside thee Rosscarbery RIC barracks, had recently been attacked by the IRA and burnt. The flying column had taken over Burgatia House and had been found there by the British. The IRA believed that the Misses Whitley and Frank O'Sullivan had been responsible for informing the British of their whereabouts.

IRA Witness Statement Late in June 1921, Jim Hurley (Battalion 0/C.), Tim Donoghue, (Vice0/C) and I went to Rosscarbery to execute a spy named Frank O'Donoghue. This man had previously been working for Miss Whitley whose house had been burned after the attack on Burgatia House because of the part played by her in conveying information to the enemy regarding our occupation of Burgatia. The battalion staff had obtained definite information that this man had informed the Auxiliaries of the whereabouts of Jim Lane and myself on the occasion when we had to spend a day and a night in the potato garden. We had met him on that occasion in Regan's public house and, when he left, it appears that he told the enemy of our presence in Rosscarbery. When we called to his house we were informed that he was in bed. We asked to see him in connection with the Rosscarbery Band and he came down to .us. After a severe cross- examination, he admitted that he had informed the enemy of the whereabouts of Jim Lane and myself on the night mentioned above. We procured a priest to hear his confession and then executed him.
